Jazz Ensemble

The award-winning Plano East Jazz Band is a year-long ensemble that meets daily during a designated class period. Students enrolled in the course will study and perform a variety of styles that are important to the rich history of jazz, including swing, ballads, funk, rock, and contemporary music. In addition, students will develop basic improvisation techniques and critical listening skills through both small- and large-ensemble performance experiences.

The Jazz Band presents three campus concerts each year and participates in one or two competitive festivals during the spring semester.

Ensemble Prerequisites

  1. Students must successfully complete an audition. Auditions take place during the spring semester of the preceding school year. Audition materials and information are distributed in early March through the band's communication platforms.

  2. Students must be enrolled in their respective parent music organization, when applicable (e.g., band, orchestra, or choir).
